Rep. Gil Cisneros, D-Covina, Saturday criticized the arrest of an El Monte woman and her son by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

The 50-year-old woman, identified in multiple media reports as Yolanda, was arrested last Monday at her home along with her son Johnathan. Her family told NBC4 that Yolanda does not have a criminal record and that Johnathan’s unspecified crime occurred 12 years ago.

The mother does not have a criminal background and the son had already served a sentence nearly a decade ago. The mother is the primary caretaker for her daughter, who is battling bone cancer.
