Internships

Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA- 31) offers Spring, Summer, and Fall internship programs in both his District office and Washington, D.C. offices year-round. Our Washington, D.C. office offers legislative and press internships, whereas our District office in Covina, California offers the district internship. We are excited that you have taken interest in joining our team. Please follow the instructions below to apply for an internship in one of our offices. 

This internship is a paid opportunity, and applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Washington, D.C.

Our office in Washington, D.C. provides two types of internships, a legislative internship and a press internship. While there is overlap in the responsibilities of the legislative and press interns, they also hold responsibilities tailored to either legislation or press/communications. 

Legislative Internship 

Legislative interns have the opportunity to learn how the House functions through hands-on experience. Interns will have the opportunity to sit in on committee hearings and briefings, assist with legislative projects, and lead Capitol tours. They will also support the D.C. office by answering phones, greeting visitors, sorting mail, and other administrative duties as assigned, as well as providing support to legislative staff as needed.
Ideal candidates have strong writing and verbal communication skills, the ability to manage multiple competing tasks, a strong sense of professionalism, and demonstrate a solid work ethic. District ties are a plus. Diverse and bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Press Internship

The press intern will work closely with the communications team. Applicants should be organized, creative, familiar with current events, and detail oriented. Responsibilities include answering telephones, leading Capitol tours, compiling daily press clips, creating content for social media, drafting press releases, newsletters, and other written materials, maintaining press lists, clipping floor and hearing remarks; and designing graphics. 

Ideal candidates have strong writing and communication skills, the ability to manage multiple competing tasks, a strong sense of professionalism, and demonstrate a solid work ethic. Excellent written and oral communication skills are a must. Relevant communications skills such as graphic design, social media, and video editing experience are preferred. District ties are a plus. Diverse and bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Covina, CA

Our District office provides one type of internship program: the district internship program. This is an in-person congressional internship based in Covina, California. Unlike the internships based in Washington D.C., district interns get to interact with constituents and community leaders on a regular basis primarily through events or casework. 

District Internship

District interns will work in a dynamic environment assisting with the operations of a congressional office. Duties include, but are not limited to: answering constituent calls, assisting with Federal Casework intake, creating flyers, event planning, clerical work, and other district-based projects. District interns will also have the opportunity to learn about the 31st Congressional District of California by shadowing Field Representatives. The District office is open from 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M., from Monday-Friday. Preference will be given to strong applicants with two to three full days of availability per week.
