Rep. Cisneros Statement on Vote to Certify 2024 Election

January 6, 2025

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. released the following statement after voting to certify the 2024 election results:

“When I first enlisted in the United States Navy, I swore a solemn oath to serve our country and defend our Constitution. Just last week, I took that oath again when I was sworn in as a member of Congress. I take my service and responsibility to the American people seriously, which is why I voted to certify the 2024 election results. It is our duty to stand up for our democratic institutions and uphold the rule of law and peaceful transfer of power. Political violence has no place in our democratic process. We must respect the will of the American people and dedicate ourselves to ensuring that the attacks on our Capitol on January 6th, 2021, are never repeated.”

Rep. Cisneros is a Navy veteran, the former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and previously served in the 116th Congress. He is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Labor Caucus, New Democrat Coalition, the bipartisan For Country Caucus, and Reproductive Freedom Caucus. California’s 31st District encompasses parts of eastern Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel Valley, including West Covina, El Monte, and Baldwin Park.
