Rep. Cisneros Statement on Attending Presidential Inauguration

January 20, 2025

Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. attended President Trump’s inauguration. He released the following statement:

“I’m attending the Presidential Inauguration because I take seriously my oath to serve our country and my responsibility as a Member of the House of Representatives. However, that same oath compels me to hold this incoming administration and President accountable, and that starts today. This Republican Congress has already shown it is more focused on partisan, political messaging bills rather than real solutions that would lower costs and improve the lives of everyday Americans. Rather than pushing a tax scam that would raise costs for American families, or pursuing $3 trillion in cuts to our healthcare system, the President needs to show he is committed to putting hardworking families first. I have stood up to the President before and I am prepared to do so once again.”

Rep. Cisneros is a Navy veteran, the former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and previously served in the 116th Congress. He serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Small Business. He is a member of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Labor Caucus, New Democrat Coalition, the bipartisan For Country Caucus, and Reproductive Freedom Caucus. California’s 31st District encompasses parts of eastern Los Angeles County and the San Gabriel Valley, including West Covina, El Monte, and Baldwin Park.
