Rep. Cisneros Stands Up for Servicemembers and National Security, Votes No on National Defense Authorization Act
Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. released the following statement after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act last night:
“Our servicemembers are our nation’s most valuable asset, yet House Republicans are willing to put this historically bipartisan bill at risk to play right-wing politics,” said Rep. Gil Cisneros. “The NDAA has been a shining example of bipartisan collaboration for over 60 years. However, House Republicans chose to focus on divisive distractions today by allowing the Trump Administration to continue its use of the military as his pawns against American citizens instead of supporting the critical needs of our troops and addressing our pacing threat. Republicans have failed to meet the needs of our military and are weakening our national security with these partisan games. I could not support this bill with good conscience, knowing that it fails to serve the needs of our military and national security.”
The Republicans’ 2025 National Defense Authorization Act:
Fails to address the Trump Administration’s breach of power using the U.S. military for domestic law enforcement on U.S. Citizens.
Weakens the oversight role of Congress, leaving Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth to continue to make a mess of the Pentagon.
Disregards the bipartisan bill that was originally passed out of committee that prioritized national security, servicemembers, and their families.
