Rep. Cisneros Introduces Bill to Reduce Administrative Burden on Small Businesses
Washington, DC – Today, Rep. Gil Cisneros (CA-31) introduced the Cut the Burden, Keep the Benefits Act. This bill supports small businesses across the country by giving them an opportunity to voice not only regulatory concerns, but all government actions that affect them, including tariffs and on healthcare.
“I hear it every day, small businesses need relief from Trump’s chaotic use of tariffs, but the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy, which should advocate for small businesses across the federal government, ignores them,” said Rep. Cisneros. “I introduced this bill to ensure small businesses can report all of their concerns, whether regarding regulations or tariffs, and require the Office of Advocacy to actually listen to small businesses across the country.”
This bill would allow small businesses to contact the SBA Office of Advocacy regarding all government actions affecting them from rules, policy memoranda, and guidance, which would allow for reporting on small business concerns related to executive orders, or proclamations related to tariffs, health care, or immigration enforcement. The bill adds a specific requirement to solicit more precise information related to the government actions and rules subject to the Regulatory Flexibility Act and provide regulatory alternatives that will achieve the goal of the agency while minimizing the burden on small entities. Lastly, it increases reporting by requiring information on all government actions, including the benefits of each rule, recommendations for actions to minimize the burden, a summary of actions taken by Advocacy, and delineating the type of entity that is making submissions.
