Rep. Cisneros Demands Answers from Federal Agencies, Protects Taxpayers
WASHINGTON — Congressman Gil Cisneros (CA-31), led letters to the Social Security Administration (SSA) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to inquire about the impacts that reductions in force (RIFs) will have on casework processing. Casework is a crucial service provided by congressional offices where constituents can raise their concerns with tax refunds, Social Security payments, passports, and other benefits that they are owed from federal agencies. After recent layoffs, congressional caseworkers are receiving bounce-back emails and no-replies from federal agencies leaving many cases delayed and unresolved.
“Trump and DOGE’s layoffs are affecting more than just the federal workforce—they have delayed millions of dollars in casework requests for our constituents,” said Rep. Cisneros. “Congressional casework is essential to ensure our taxpayers get their refunds, our seniors get their checks, and our constituents get prompt and accurate responses from federal agencies. These critical services have become collateral damage in Trump’s careless mission to destroy our federal agencies and decimate their workforce. I am leading 50+ House Democrats in letters to the IRS and SSA to ensure our constituent casework isn’t affected by the reckless RIFs.”
