Rep. Cisneros Honors 39th District 2020 California Distinguished Schools

WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. delivered a floor speech honoring the thirteen elementary schools in California’s 39th District for their selection into the 2020 California Distinguished Schools Awards Program. According to the California Department of Education, the program recognizes outstanding education programs and practices. Schools are awarded for closing the achievement gap and for achieving exceptional student performance.

“Madam Speaker, it is with great pride that I rise today to honor and congratulate thirteen elementary schools in California’s 39th District for their selection as 2020 California Distinguished Schools.

“The 39th District elementary schools awarded this distinction include: Acacia, Blandford, Buena Terra, Charles G. Emery, Golden, Hidden Trails, Killian, Laguna Road, Laurel Elementary Magnet School of Innovation and Career Exploration, Mesa Robles, Robert C. Fisler, Wedgeworth, and Ybarra Academy of Arts and Technology

“Our students’ success is a testament to not only their dedication, but also to the tireless efforts made by educators, administrators, staff, and parents. 

“Madam Speaker, I ask that you and my honorable colleagues join me in congratulating these thirteen California Distinguished Schools for this tremendous educational achievement.”

A component of the California School Recognition Program, the Distinguished Schools program recognizes schools based on performance and progress on the state indicators as specified on the California School Dashboard. Indicators include test scores, suspension rates, and conditions and climate. Elementary schools and middle and high schools are recognized in alternate years; therefore, awardees hold the title for two years.
