WASHINGTON, D.C. – Yesterday, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) voted in support of H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2019. The bill would revoke action taken by the President last fall which revised the criteria for Section 1332 “State Innovation Waivers” to allow states to independently undermine the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) protections for individuals with pre-existing conditions.

“I am proud to cast my vote in favor of the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act of 2019, a bill that is sorely needed to ensure the people in the 39th District and all Americans have the care they need and deserve,” said Rep. Cisneros. “Individuals with pre-existing health conditions should not be discriminated against and it should not be harder for them to have access to healthcare. I will continue to fight against attempts to weaken the ACA and ensure that more Americans have affordable healthcare.”

Rep. Cisneros has cosponsored and supported several bills to protect the ACA, ensure healthcare coverage for those with pre-existing conditions, and lower prescription drug costs. H.R. 986 will now be referred to the Senate.
