WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) voted in support of H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act. With the current administration’s rollback of existing protections and work authorizations for individuals with Deferred Action for Child Arrivals (DACA) and Temporary Protected Status (TPS), the Dream and Promise Act will offer a pathway to citizenship for these and similarly situated immigrants who have spent much of their lives in the United States.

“Today’s historic passage of the Dream and Promise Act is a landmark victory for our DREAMers and TPS Holders. These immigrants are students, service members, coworkers, neighbors, and loved ones," said Rep. Cisneros. "They deserve the opportunity to live in the country they love and call home without fear of deportation.

“I have worked to support DREAMers in their pursuit of higher education, and I am honored to have several DREAMer congressional interns in both my Washington, D.C. and Fullerton office.  We must continue to embrace the diversity of our immigrant communities and the valuable contributions they make to our communities, economy, and country.”

"We are glad to hear that Congressman Cisneros is taking steps to provide long term solutions for our students and thousands more individuals across the nation,” said Martha Zavala Perez, Coordinator at the Cal State Fullerton Titan Dreamers Resource Center. “As the policy debate over immigration continues, the Titan Dreamers Resource Center will continue to serve as a resource and support for our undocumented Titans and the greater Cal State Fullerton community."

"The Dream and Promise Act is a life-line and the beginning to an equitable quality of life for young immigrants, TPS holders, and DED holders,” said Miriam Tellez, a DACA recipient and district office intern with Rep. Cisneros. “To me, it is a step closer to justice for some Americans that benefits all Americans. I cannot and will not forget my original Dreamer, my mother, by whom my American Dream is a possibility.  As we fight for this bill we must keep our immigrant families in mind because they are Americans too."

The Dream and Promise Act was authored by Rep. Roybal-Allard (CA-40) and was co-introduced by Rep. Cisneros. Up to 2.5 million immigrants across the country could be eligible for protection under the Dream and Promise Act, securing their futures in the United States as well as the fiscal and economic contributions. The bill will now be referred to the Senate.
