Rep. Cisneros Questions the DoD on President’s Proposed Border Wall and the Impacts on Military Readiness

**Cisneros emphasized the negative effects of using military construction funds to build the President’s proposed border wall**

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Armed Services Committee Member Congressman Gil Cisneros questioned the Honorable John Rood from the DoD and Vice Admiral Michael Gilday about military construction projects and the potential use of funds to build the President’s proposed border wall.

Rep. Cisneros highlighted his concerns with diverting military construction funds to support the wall. Rep. Cisneros is a 10-year Navy veteran and former Lt. Commander and supply and logistics officer. In response to Mr. Rood’s testimony regarding the millions of dollars that would be diverted from the Navy’s operating budget to plan for the wall, Cisneros said:

“As a former Navy supply officer, I know that our [military] commanders are fighting for that money, and I know how devastating it could be when it’s taken away.”

Military construction funding is typically reserved for projects to support military personnel at home and abroad. The cost of this plan of action would negatively affect military readiness, our bases, and our service members and their families.

Rep. Cisneros is vehemently opposed to the proposed border wall and will continue to work as a member of the House Armed Services Committee to ensure potential action by the President to use military resources to advance his immigration policy agenda does not impede military readiness.
