WASHINGTON, DC - Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) praised the House passage of a bill to extend the Paycheck Protection Program to August 8th. The previous deadline for the forgiveness loan was yesterday, June 30th. The bill passed under unanimous consent.

“Countless small businesses in the 39th District have relied on the PPP to help stay afloat during the pandemic. However, many have been unable to access this forgivable loan,” said Rep. Cisneros. “I’m grateful the House unanimously passed this bill to extend the PPP application deadline to next week and provide more time for small businesses to apply for the loan. However, I’m still concerned with the lack of full PPP transparency from Treasury and SBA. The American people deserve to know where their taxpayer dollars are going.”

Rep. Cisneros has been a strong advocate for transparency over the small business emergency loan program. On June 18th, he sent a letter to the Treasury Secretary and SBA Administrator urging for the immediate disclosure of PPP loan information. On May 20th, Rep. Cisneros also sent a letter to congressional leadership calling for oversight and transparency over PPP.

On May 28th, Rep. Cisneros voted to pass bipartisan legislation, which he cosponsored, to improve PPP and  make it easier for the loan to be forgiven and more accessible to small businesses that need it the most.
