Rep. Cisneros Launches 2020 Census Videos
FULLERTON, CA – Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) launched census videos subtitled in English, Spanish, Chinese, and Korean. Starting this Thursday, March 12, households will begin receiving official Census Bureau mail with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census online, by phone, or by mail. Census Day is observed nationwide on April 1.
“The U.S. Census is right around the corner. And every person in our community, and communities across the country, need to be counted. For every person we miss in the census, we will lose $2,000 in federal funding. A fair and accurate count affects hundreds of critical services and programs that make a difference in our lives every day, including Assistance to Firefighter Grants, Head Start, Special Education Grants, Highway Planning and Construction, and Small Business Development Centers.
“It’s especially critical that we reach out to communities that have been historically undercounted in the census, like the Hispanic, Asian American and Pacific Islander, and Black communities. It’s why the U.S. Census Bureau conducts the count, offers support, and provides information in different languages. With town halls, e-newsletters, and partnerships with organizations in the 39th District, I’ve been committed to ensuring our communities know the importance of the census and will continue to stay engaged with my constituents throughout this process.”
On January 17, Rep. Cisneros hosted a town hall with California Secretary of State Alex Padilla to talk about the 2020 Census and Vote Centers.
On February 20, Rep. Cisneros condemned a census scam targeted at California’s 39th District.
