FULLERTON, CA – On Monday, May 13, Congressman Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) held a press conference with AAPI community leaders to discuss the upcoming 2020 U.S. Census and its important impact on federal health, housing, and critical social services funding in the 39th District.
“Today was an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to protecting and serving our diverse communities in the 39th District. Our residents are business owners, healthcare innovators, artists, and community leaders who must be counted in the 2020 Census,” said Rep. Cisneros. “Our discussion today focused on how an accurate count of all Americans in every community provides us an opportunity to better understand their contributions to our district and how we can better serve them. An accurate census that counts everyone will not only ensure the delivery of public services to all our communities, but will also drive economic development and business investments.”
The inclusion of a U.S. citizenship question could depress the response rate and subsequent funding for outreach programs in the AAPI community. Rep. Cisneros is an executive board member of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC).
