FULLERTON, CA - Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) cosponsored new legislation, the Coronavirus Community Relief Act, to provide $250 billion in stabilization funds for local communities, cities, and towns across the United States that are struggling amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “While the CARES Act brought necessary relief to our families, workers, and small businesses, cities under 500,000 people were shut out, including every city in the 39th District. Congress has to fix this,” said Rep. Cisneros. “There’s not a single community in the United States that hasn’t been affected by the coronavirus. It’s why I’m proud to cosponsor this bill that will ensure all our cities and towns receive the direct support they so desperately need.”

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act, or the CARES Act, signed into law on March 27th, provided stabilization funds for states and larger communities, but capped localities able to receive direct support at those with populations of over 500,000. That includes every city in California’s 39th District.
