Rep. Cisneros Announces SOTU Guest - Julie Erick, Fullerton Resident and Breast Cancer Survivor
FULLERTON, CA - Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) announced that he invited Julie Erick, a Fullerton constituent, as his guest for the President’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday, February 4th. Julie is a breast cancer survivor who depends on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and its protections for post-cancer treatments. Without protections for pre-existing conditions, she wouldn’t have been able to afford healthcare or receive cancer treatment.
“More than 320,700 residents in California’s 39th District have a pre-existing condition. Julie Erick is one of those residents, and just like the tens of millions of Americans across the country, she depends on the Affordable Care Act for healthcare and pre-existing condition protections,” said Rep. Cisneros. “It’s deeply concerning that this President and his Administration keep trying to undermine life-saving protections and our healthcare law, injecting fear and uncertainty into families like Julie’s. We cannot go back to a time when insurance companies could deny healthcare coverage because of a pre-existing condition, lives depend on these protections. Since my first day in Congress, I’ve been fighting to protect the ACA and will continue to do so for Julie, for all my constituents, and for Americans everywhere.”
“I appreciate that I didn’t have to be uninsured because of a pre-existing condition due to my cancer. I know how expensive it is to go through chemo, hospital bills, radiation, and everything else that goes with treatment,” said Julie Erick. “But my goal and my hope is that everybody is covered. Nobody should have to worry whether or not they or a family member can get medical care. And I’m incredibly thankful that I received coverage through the Affordable Care Act.”
Rep. Cisneros has been working to preserve and protect the ACA to ensure all Americans have access to affordable healthcare. Making sure those with preexisting conditions never have to fear the possibility of discrimination or higher premiums.
Earlier last year, Rep. Cisneros voted to authorize the House of Representatives to intervene in the Texas lawsuit to strike down the ACA. Rep. Cisneros also supported H.R. 986, the Protecting Americans with Pre-Existing Conditions Act, and H.R. 987, The Strengthening Health Care and Lowering Prescription Drug Costs Act, which passed the House following a letter sent to House Committee leaders urging quick action to stabilize the healthcare marketplace, reverse the Administration’s undermining of ACA, and lower healthcare costs for consumers.
